Last year, I was lucky enough to go to the Cheltenham Art Festival for Part B of my Bronze Arts Award. At this Festival I was able to witness people showing of their artistic abilities and talents that led them to create their masterpieces.
At the festival, I was most interested by meeting Jim Parkyn who is the Aardman animation ambassador and model maker. He gave me a 1:1 lesson on making things out of plasticine plus a lesson on the basics of animation.
In this section I made a dog from plasticine. This was formed by making multiple small parts and blending them together with a set of clay tools. Even with help I found this difficult as I have never used this media before. The methods of animation he showed me was stop motion using a fixed camera, and a remote for shutter control so the camera would not move between frame to frame, the software he used was stop motion studio on his iPad.
This had a creative impact on me because it is an art form that I haven’t explored yet. I felt I learnt the basics of a new skill, animation. If you are up to a challenge.
Among that there were lots of other things like wood turning and glass making which I took an interest in.
Thank you for reading. If you would like to leave a comment, I would be most grateful.
What a lovely experience for you. Especially the 1-1 model making. I have never been to the Cheltenham arts festival, but your positive experience has made me want to go and somewhere to take my children to explore different art techniques. Thank you for your wonderful description, I hope you continue with the model making and animation. 😊👍
